15-yr-old student drown in Oniyanri River, Lagos

A 15-year-old student  of Ikosi High School, identified as Fouad Feyisetan Owonifari, on Tuesday, drowned at Oniyanri River, on the Ikorodu Expressway,  Lagos.

The deceased student had reportedly gone to the river  with his elder brother when the unfortunate incident happened.

His corpse was, on Wednesday, recovered by a combined team of officials of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), Nigerian Marine Navy and some local divers.

The image maker in charge of the South West zone of NEMA , Ibrahim Farinloye, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on the incident, stated that NEMA and Marine Navy had, around 4 30 p.m. on Tuesday, received a distress call about the incident.

NEMA said that “we got to the scene and tried the best we could do, but we did not succeed in the recovery. We suspended the operation against today. We commenced search this morning and by 10:59 a.m, we recovered the body.”

According to Farinloye, “the mother, Mrs Kemi Owonifari, a member of Lagos State Neighbourhood Group, said the boy went to the river to take a bath with his brother.”
The mother of the deceased was said to have  narrated  that the brother cam
e home to report that his brother had drowned.
